Securing its position as a pioneer in green automotive manufacturing, Bentley Motors Limited has committed to using sustainable aviation fuel for all its customer car airfreight going forward.
SUSTAINABLE LUXURY
Founded in 1919, Bentley Motors Limited (Bentley) has grown from modest beginnings and forged a name for itself as the definitive British luxury car manufacturer, crafting some of the world’s most sought-after high-performance vehicles.
The combination of fine craftsmanship, exceptional people, and the relentless pursuit of unparalleled performance has made the company a prodigy in the automotive industry.
Now boasting a team of over 4,000 dedicated colleagues, Bentley is using its generations of engineering expertise to create a future driven by new technologies, materials, fuels, and skills. Its aim is to enable a progressive world in which the highest levels of luxury mobility are achieved through sustainable methods.
The company is taking one step closer to this goal through its recently announced initiative to use sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for all customer car airfreight movements worldwide.
This declaration aligns with Bentley’s Beyond100+ strategy, which promises to revolutionise the company to become the most sustainable luxury automotive brand globally.
DECARBONISING THE SUPPLY CHAIN
Through this commitment to implementing 100 percent SAF for airfreight and significantly reducing lifecycle carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e), Bentley is proudly leading the way in its sustainability efforts.
This use of certified SAF for customer car airfreight movements applies immediately and represents a monumental step forward in the company’s global logistics decarbonisation strategy. Through the transition to SAF in cases where flights are essential, Bentley is reducing the emissions associated with air transport whilst maintaining the high levels of service it has become known for over the past century.
The company’s decision reflects measurable, evidence-based steps to reduce the environmental impact of essential movements and reduce operational and value-chain emissions in line with its long-term net-zero ambition.
Airfreight is only used upon customer request or for time-critical market requirements, and will always be a controlled part of Bentley’s global logistics network. However, the luxury car manufacturer is ensuring that when it is required, it will be delivered in the most responsible manner possible.
With air transportation producing higher emissions than sea transportation, this move to implement certified SAF highlights a crucial step in reducing the environmental impact and furthering Bentley’s sustainability goals outlined in its Beyond100+ initiative.
Specifically, SAF is produced from renewable or waste-based sources and acts as an ISCC-certified alternative to conventional jet fuel, which can be used in existing aircraft and airport infrastructure without modification.
Currently, depending on raw material and production methods, SAF has the ability to reduce lifecycle CO2e emissions by up to 70 to 95 percent, as compared with standard aviation fuel.
TRAILBLAZING SUSTAINABILITY
Through the integration of SAF into Bentley’s wider decarbonisation strategy and logistics operations, the company is bolstering the foundations needed to deliver on its long-term climate goals, all whilst supporting customers and markets with more responsible distribution practices.
At the moment, the company’s usage of SAF covers all customer car movements; however, it is seeking to extend the alternative fuel across additional logistics routes where airfreight may also be required.
This major progression towards the decarbonisation of its end-to-end supply chain fully supports the goals of Beyond100+.
Placing sustainability at the core of the automotive brand, Beyond100+ cements Bentley’s future and long-term commitment to low-carbon, responsible luxury. It meaningfully combines care for the environment with the support of people and innovation, ultimately redefining every aspect of the business and establishing it as a stalwart in green luxury mobility.
As Bentley continues to implement new sustainable programmes, its ambition goes beyond technology, symbolising its dedication to timeless luxury, environmental responsibility, social inclusion, and innovation.
The company is on a momentous journey into the future, in which sustainability will be paramount. There is no better example of the path Bentley is on than its recent commitment to use certified SAF for all customer car airfreight movements across the globe.
