AORA México has become Sephora’s first fully plastic-free beauty brand, marking a milestone for sustainable cosmetics while demonstrating that luxury, performance, and environmental responsibility can coexist.
JOINING AN INFLUENTIAL BEAUTY RETAILER
Founded on the belief that sustainability should sit at the heart of luxury beauty rather than alongside it, AORA México has reached a landmark moment with its launch at Sephora, becoming the retailer’s first fully plastic-free beauty brand.
Announced during Plastic Free July, the partnership represents more than a retail debut. It signals a shift in expectations across the prestige beauty market, where environmentally conscious packaging is increasingly becoming a competitive advantage rather than a niche selling point.
Founded in Mexico City in 2022 by Nour Tayara and Rodrigo Peñafiel, AORA was created to prove that high-performance cosmetics, premium design, and environmental responsibility can work together without compromise. Every product is packaged entirely without plastic, instead using recyclable tin, aluminium, or wood, while formulations feature Mexican-origin ingredients, including five native chiles, tepezcohuite, and cactus flower.
As the brand joins one of the world’s most influential beauty retailers, it hopes to demonstrate that plastic-free luxury is ready for the mainstream.
“This launch proves that plastic-free luxury is no longer a niche concept. It belongs at the center of the beauty industry, and we’re proud to show that a brand born in Mexico can help define what’s next,” said Nour Tayara, Co-founder of AORA.
SUSTAINABILITY MEETS PERFORMANCE
AORA arrives at Sephora with a portfolio that has already attracted a strong consumer following.
Its Acaríciame Más Spicy Lip Serum has become one of the company’s most recognisable products, featuring a distinctive spicy sensation created using five native Mexican chiles alongside clean ingredients. Meanwhile, the Inícia Illuminating Primer, which has sold out three times since launch, will make its first retail appearance through Sephora.
The collection is completed by the pyramid-shaped Mírame Palette and the brand’s collectible leather Chile Carrier Charms, combining bold aesthetics with the company’s distinctive sustainability-led identity.
The launch reinforces AORA’s founding philosophy that luxury packaging does not need to rely on plastic to deliver a premium consumer experience.
CELEBRATING MEXICAN HERITAGE
Beyond product innovation, AORA is also bringing greater cultural representation to prestige beauty retail.
The company is among the few brands at Sephora to offer Spanish-language packaging alongside bilingual digital content, recognising the growing influence and purchasing power of Latinx consumers within the global beauty industry.
Its commitment to sustainability extends beyond packaging. Certified by rePurpose Global, every purchase contributes towards removing nine times its weight in plastic from nature. Collectively, AORA customers have already helped remove more than 2,390 kilograms of plastic.
The milestone highlights how sustainability initiatives can be embedded throughout a brand’s value proposition, from product design and ingredient sourcing to consumer engagement and environmental impact.
Available on Sephora.com from 17 July, AORA’s arrival reflects changing priorities across the beauty industry as retailers and brands increasingly recognise that premium products can also deliver meaningful environmental benefits.
For AORA, becoming Sephora’s first fully plastic-free beauty brand is not simply a commercial achievement. It represents an opportunity to demonstrate that sustainable innovation is reshaping expectations across the luxury cosmetics market, with plastic-free design moving from an alternative choice to an emerging industry benchmark.
