Siemens Software Supports Reusable Spacecraft Development at the Exploration Company

The Exploration Company is using Siemens Xcelerator software to streamline the development of its reusable spacecraft and propulsion systems, helping reduce engineering complexity, improve collaboration and accelerate manufacturing. The partnership supports the European aerospace start-up’s plans to scale reusable space technologies.

Digital Engineering for Next-Generation Space Systems

The Exploration Company has adopted software from the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio to support the development of its reusable space systems and rocket propulsion technologies.

Founded in 2021 near Munich, the company is developing reusable, launcher-agnostic spacecraft, including its Nyx spacecraft family and rocket propulsion systems designed to transport cargo, and eventually crew, to destinations in Earth orbit and beyond.

Siemens said its software is helping the company reduce design complexity while accelerating engineering and product development.


Integrated Design and Manufacturing

The Siemens Xcelerator portfolio provides an integrated engineering environment that combines mechanical, electrical and simulation disciplines, enabling teams to work from a connected digital platform.

The software supports data exchange and traceability throughout the development process, helping meet the certification requirements associated with aerospace programmes.

According to Siemens, the integrated approach allows engineering changes made in one discipline to be reflected across others, reducing rework and improving collaboration.

Siemens said its software is also supporting development of Storm, The Exploration Company’s high-thrust rocket engine.

The engineering platform enables the company to model and optimise additive manufacturing processes while maintaining connectivity between design, engineering and manufacturing data.

By integrating product development and manufacturing workflows, the software is intended to help improve engineering efficiency while supporting the production of increasingly complex aerospace systems.
